Immunofixation Electrophoresis
Comments

Code              Description

none

Describe all monoclonal Ig proteins identified,  i.e., heavy chain with associated light; free light; free heavy).

Interpreter: If polyclonal Igs are also seen, optional to add “IFP” comment.

IFP

Polyclonal IgG, IgA and IgM, with kappa and lambda light chains are present.

IF1

Minimally increased Ig____is identified; monoclonality (uncertain; unclear; cannot be excluded). We recommend repeat electrophoresis and immunofixation electrophoresis in _ to _ months, if clinically indicated.

IFO

Multiple small prominent bands are identified as Ig ____with attached kappa and lambda light chains suggesting an oligoclonal pattern associated with active hepatic inflammation and other conditions involving altered immunoregulatory mechanisms . Monoclonality (is unclear; cannot be excluded). We recommend repeat serum immunofixation electrophoresis in  3 to 6 months for clarification, if clinically indicated.

Interpreter: If polyclonal Igs are seen, optional to add “IFP” comment.
